WElink Energy is leading the renewable generation revolution in Europe as it confirms the purchase and continued development of a 46MW unsubsidised solar project Ourika, located near Ourique, Southern Portugal.
Ourika commenced construction in July 2017, but following WElink Energy’s purchase of the project in the Autumn, it now is being constructed at pace after signing an EPC contract with its longstanding industrial and strategic partner China Triumph International Engineering Co. Ltd (CTIEC). The project is now due to be connected to the grid mid-2018.
WElink Group’s Chief Executive, Barry O’Neill said of the project:
‘Ourika is a great project to add to our portfolio – we are delighted to have been successful in securing it as our second major solar project of its type in Iberia. Along with our 221MW Solara4 announcement in October, WElink is now pioneering the maturation of renewables though the generation of low carbon power without public subsidy.
WElink though isn’t standing still, we have plans for further developments both in large scale solar and groundbreaking integration of solar power and battery storage technology in homes.
Eduardo Aguilar, WElink Energy’s Head of Development for Iberia, added:
“We are excited that our contribution will continue to drive electricity prices down thanks to our broader Iberian solar portfolio, starting with our Ourika project already under advanced construction.
WElink has significant ambitions for developing renewable projects in Portugal and Spain. Both countries provide opportunities for our projects and we look forward to working with Governments and others to power the future.”
WElink purchased the project from Solaer Group, a leading renewable energy developer, who become the lead subcontractor on the project.
Solaer Group Director, Adrian Mozas, commented:
‘Solaer Group is proud WElink and CTIEC deposited their confidence in us for the development and construction of the Ourika Project. We are glad to be working on the first merchant project in Portugal and one of the few of its kind in Europe. We at Solaer Group, a Spanish based business, are glad to be working back in the Iberian market.’
Ourika also received significant political support during a recent visited by the Portuguese Secretary of State of Energy, Jorge Seguro Sanches, Director General for Energy European Commission, Dominique Ristori, and Ourique Camera President, Marcelo Guerreiro.
